Is Facebook’s Latest Tech Announcement Hinting At Video Monetization?

With the clear popularity of video on Facebook, seen by the incredible impression counts on video clips appearing in our feeds daily—if not hourly—could a new tech bring producers one step closer to monetizing their videos on the social network?

Facebook recently announced forthcoming technology to allow video content creators the ability to identify duplicate content.

From the announcement:

“…we have been building new video matching technology that will be available to a subset of creators. This technology is tailored to our platform, and will allow these creators to identify matches of their videos on Facebook across Pages, profiles, groups, and geographies. Our matching tool will evaluate millions of video uploads quickly and accurately, and when matches are surfaced, publishers will be able to report them to us for removal.”
